How many beds are there in the hospital?

There are 58 patient rooms with 66 beds including:
  • 28 Med/Surg single patient rooms
  • 6 Critical Care single patient rooms
  • 4 Perinatal (LDRP) single and 2 double patient rooms
  • Does the single patient room concept raise costs?

No. In many ways, the single patient concept helps keep costs down and is a more efficient utilization of space. When a hospital has double patient rooms the 'room mates' must be of the same gender in order to share a room. This can complicate rooming options. In addition, studies have shown that most patients recuperate faster in single patient rooms. Finally, and most importantly, insurance companies pay the hospital a flat rate for a patient per day. Therefore, it doesn't matter with regards to reimbursement what our patient rooms are, we will be paid the same price.
Where can I pay my hospital bill?

Payments can be made at the Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region Central Billing Office, at P. O. Box 160100, Sacramento, CA., 95816-8840. Questions regarding a payment should be directed to (800) 353-3369.

Payments may also be made at the Registration Desk at the hospital.

Is there a designated smoking area?

The new hospital has been designated a clean air campus, meaning smoking will only be allowed in one designated area. The smoking patio is a covered shelter located on the southeast corner of the property.
    Is the hospital seismically safe?

The safety of our patients, visitors and staff is of utmost importance. The state of California has very strict regulations regarding seismic safety and the hospital has abided by each and every regulation in order to become accredited.
What precautions does the hospital take to prevent and/or handle a fire?

The exterior walls of the hospital are made of a lightweight foam material, surrounded by steel, so there is very little use of wood, which of course is more flamable. The interior of the hospital meets all fire code regulations established by the state of California for hospitals. There are established floor to ceiling fire walls and each penetration through those walls (pipes, etc.)have fire caulking, which expands to keep smoke contained during a fire. Throughout the hospital there are doors that automatically close when a fire alarm is pulled. There are fire sprinklers and over 300 fire dampers in each duct throughout the hospital. There are also clearly identified fire exits, clear evacuation routes and fire extinguishers, as regulated by law, throughout the facility. Our staff is also trained in fire safety on an annual basis.
What the security precautions does the hospital take?

The hospital is very concerned about the safety of our patients, visitors and staff. In addition to increased lighting and security cameras for the parking lots, the facility has 'lock-down' capabilities, meaning all exterior doors can be locked. There are also security cameras located throughout the hospital. In addition, a card key system has been installed that will enable entrance to departments only by authorized staff.

Other safety precautions include the wander guard - a sensor that is included in patients ID braclets that sets off an alarm if they pass through a separate sensor placed in certain locations throughout the hospital. This is also part of our infant security system. Finally, our staff is fully trained in security and disaster training measures.
How much did the hospital cost?

The new Sutter Amador Hospital cost $33 million. This works out to be about $250 per square foot. Twenty-five percent of $8 million of the cost will be paid from accumulated earnings of Sutter Amador, 75% or $25 million is financed through tax-exempt bonds issued through Sutter Health on behalf of Sutter Health affiliate group of which Sutter Amador Hospital is a member. Sutter Amador Hospital is responsible for interest payments on the bonds and depreciation costs of the new hospital of approximately $2.7 million per year. All Sutter Health hospitals are required to service their own debt.
    What are the donor opportunites?

The hospital welcomes the participation of all donors in our community hospital. Because all money donated to the new hospital campaign goes toward technology, donations are helping to directly provide state-of-the-art healthcare right here in Amador County. If you are interested in making a donation or speaking to someone about a gift, please contact Laurie Chavoen, Fund Development Coordinator, at 257-7617. Donations of certain levels are recognized on our donor wall. Other donations may dedicate rooms or other areas of the hospital.
